10 Random Things That Make Cats Really Happy

September 1, 2022
Did you know that September is Happy Cat Month? Kitties deserve to be happy all the time, of course. Fortunately for us, it doesn’t take much to please our feline overlords. Here, a Fort Collins, CO vet lists some ways to get Fluffy’s engine running.

Catnip

It’s probably no surprise to find this curious plant at the top of the list. Kitties have a very interesting and unique reaction to catnip, which is a member of the mint family. Fluffy actually has scent receptors in her nose that perfectly match catnip scent molecules.

Boxes

Fluffy may love being pampered, but she doesn’t necessarily have expensive taste. Give your furry buddy an empty box every now and then.

Soft Beds

Fluffy should have a few comfy beds to choose from. However, you can increase the number of napping spots she has by putting soft blankets on chairs, ottomans, boxes, or wicker baskets.

Window Seats

If Fluffy doesn’t have easy access to a comfy window seat, there’s a pretty good chance that she’ll try to make her own. Offer her a spot with a great view, so she can relax and watch neighborhood wildlife!

Sunbeams

Cats don’t run on solar power, but they do enjoy charging their catteries by basking in the sun. Put a bed or cat tower in a sunny spot for Fluffy!

Running Water

Did you know that many cats prefer to drink running water? Consider getting Fluffy a pet fountain. (Some kitties also enjoy splashing the water with their paws, but that’s another topic.)

Paper Bags

Kitties love small spaces, so they often can’t resist paper bags. Just cut any straps off first, as otherwise your furry friend could get tangled up.

Lap Space

Fluffy is the purrfect size to curl up in our laps for snuggles. Let her snooze on you while you’re watching TV or reading!

Sheet-Changing Time

We may never learn why cats get so excited about this everyday household chore. We just know it’s adorable when they try to ‘help’.

Being Talked To

Fluffy may like to act aloof, but at the end of the day she’s actually very devoted and affectionate, and needs to feel loved to thrive. Kitties are also great listeners!
