Reasons To Respect Your Cat

March 15, 2022

Respect Your Cat Day is coming up on March 28th! This is a very important holiday for our feline friends. To be fair, we do spend quite a bit of time laughing at Fluffy, and poking fun at her. That really isn’t fair. These little furballs may be quite comical, but they are definitely worthy of respect. A Fort Collins, CO vet lists some reasons why in this article.

Fluffy Is A Serial Killer

Did you know that cats kill billions of small animals each year? Fluffy’s prowess at hunting mice is what first led us to domesticate her in the first place. Our feline pals have proven extremely helpful at keeping our barns and homes free of mice. In fact, the world’s top mouser, Touser, caught a whopping 28,899 mice.

Guard Kitties

Fido usually gets top billing as our number one guardian. However, Fluffy can also be quite protective of her humans. Take Zatara, the furball who protected her tiny human from a dog attack. Then there’s Vasya, a brave kitty who chased off a bear. These are just a few of the courageous felines that have sprung to their humans’ aid.

Health Benefits

Studies have shown that snuggling up with kitties can lower your blood pressure and reduce your risk of having a stroke or heart attacks. There’s also the old adage about laughter being the best medicine. If there’s an ounce of truth to that, Fluffy may be worth her weight in gold, as she certainly keeps us amused!

Magic Purrs

One of Fluffy’s cutest traits is the fact that she literally vibrates with happiness. Cat purrs actually have some very interesting properties. In fact, the frequencies kitties purr at—usually to 25 to 150 Hertz—have been shown to have healing properties. These same frequencies are even used in physical therapy!

Cleanliness

Cats are extremely clean, which is something that is definitely worth appreciating. You won’t need to brush or bathe Fluffy. Fluffy won’t need walks, either!

Mind Control

You’ve all heard the jokes about crazy cat ladies, right? As it turns out, there may be a bit of truth to this one. We can at least vouch for the fact that many kitties have their humans soundly wrapped around their paws!
