Resolutions For Kittens

January 2, 2022

Happy New Year! Has a new kitten just joined your family? If so, it’s probably safe to say that the next year is going to be full of adorable and memorable moments for you. Actually, your little ball of fur has a lot on her to-do list for 2022. Read on as a local Fort Collins, CO vet lists some things your tiny buddy may want to accomplish this year.

Claw Control

In the wild, cats depend on their claws for hunting, defense, and basic survival. However, little Fluffy is going to need to lots of practice with her paw daggers. It may take her most of the year to really get the hang of using them. Offer your pint-sized pal a good scratching post or board.

Grow

Little Fluffy will go through a lot of changes over the next several months. That big growth spurt will really take a toll on her body, so it’s important to make sure that she is getting proper nutrition. Ask your vet for specific advice.

Master The Pounce

There are few things cuter than watching a kitten hard at play. Little Fluffy is going to work very hard on her mouse-killing skills this year! Help her out by taking time to play with her every day.

Charm My Vet

We love meeting kittens, and watching them grow into happy, healthy adult cats. Your tiny buddy will need to come in a few times this year. In addition to her initial exams and vaccines, little Fluffy will need microchipping and spay/neuter surgery. Purr checks are on the house.

Explore Everything

By the time little Fluffy is all grown up, she’ll have investigated, conquered, and napped in every inch of her domain. However, those explorations can be quite dangerous for kittens! Do plenty of petproofing, and keep major appliances, such as washers, dryers, and toilets, closed when not in use. Ask your vet for more information.

Sleep

While all cats are sleepy, kittens are especially tired. Little Fluffy may sleep as much as 20 hours a day. (She does have a valid reason, as feline growth hormones are released during sleep cycles.) Provide your drowsy furball with plenty of comfy beds to choose from, and let her snooze on your lap sometimes, too.
