Adorable Things Cats Do When They Are Happy

September 1, 2021

It’s Happy Cat Month! While many animals are cute in their own way, cats are definitely one of the most adorable. Fluffy is particularly charming when she’s feeling content. In fact, these little furballs have some quite interesting ways of showing that they’re happy. A Fort Collins, CO vet lists some of them below.

The purr is of course at the top of the list, as it’s one of Fluffy’s most adorable traits. There’s actually something quite special about happy-kitty vibrations. Cats purr at frequencies between 15 and 150 Hertz. These specific frequencies have been documented as having healing properties. In fact, they’re often used in physical therapy! And, as anyone with an affectionate furball knows, snuggling up with a purring cat can be very, very relaxing.

Go Belly Up

Dogs often flip over on their backs and ask for belly rubs when they are happy. Cats aren’t as fond of belly rubs, but they will only lie on their backs when they feel comfortable. If your pet is ‘sunning’ her furry tummy, it’s a good sign that she’s pretty content. That cute belly is Fluffy’s most vulnerable area, and she won’t expose it until she feels safe.

Has your feline buddy ever playfully dashed out at you from behind a couch or door? This is another good sign that you have an untroubled furball on your hands. Cats get quite frisky and silly when they are in good spirits!

Helping Paw

Does your cat sometimes try to ‘help’ you with household tasks, such as changing the sheets or wrapping gifts? This is another sign that Fluffy is pretty cheerful. (She may not be very helpful, but it’s the thought that counts.)

Slow Blink

Did you know that a slow blink may be a sign of kitty affection? If you pay attention, you’ll notice that Fluffy sometimes does this to you when she is relaxed.

Does your kitty sometimes knead you with her claws when she’s on your lap? Kittens do this when they’re nursing, to stimulate milk flow, so this is an indication that your furry friend thinks of you as a second ‘parent’. (Tip: put a towel or blanket on your lap before letting Fluffy settle in.)
