6 Ways to Celebrate National Dog Day

August 15, 2020

August 26 th is National Dog Day! Our canine pals definitely deserve to be celebrated! Fido truly completes and enriches our lives with his love and loyalty. Read on as a Fort Collins, CO vet offers some great tips on how to get your furry buddy’s tail going on this special occasion.

Toys

Fido is extra adorable when he spots a new toy. Pick up a new plaything for your pooch! You can always go for a classic doggy toy, like a tennis ball or rope pull. Or, try something new, like an automatic ball launcher.

Treats

If there’s one thing that is guaranteed to get that cute tail going, it’s the thought of a yummy snack! Store bought treats are fine, as long as you don’t go too crazy. Fido can also have some plain, cooked meat, fish, or chicken, without the skin, bones, or fat. If it’s really hot out, get your pup some doggy ice cream.

Adventures

One of the great things about dogs is the fact that they love going places with their humans. Take your canine buddy to a park or trail! Or, just visit a pet-friendly café for a special snack. Even a trip to a drive-through can brighten up Fido’s day.

Water Fun

Many of our canine friends love splashing around in water. If your pet likes swimming, take him somewhere he can swim safely. Or, if you have a yard, let your pooch play in a kiddie pool, or the spray from a sprinkler or fountain. (Tip: if you use reclaimed water for watering, get a filter for your hose.)

New Digs

Want to really pamper your furry best friend? Get him a new bed! Or, if you have a yard, get Fido a doghouse to hang out in. If your pup likes to dig, try getting him a sandbox. Bury toys and treats for your furry little pirate to dig up.

Quality Time

Dogs really don’t ask us for much, in return for love and loyalty. All Fido really wants is to spend time with you, collecting ear scritches and belly rubs. Take some time just to relax with your furry best friend. Time spent with dogs is never wasted!
